Indore’s Municipal Corporation, with its largest budget, commenced its budget session on Tuesday. The BJP has held power in the corporation for over two decades. The 2024-25 budget proposes over ₹8,000 crore. During the session, the main opposition, Congress, protested against alleged corruption and proposed increases in green cess and water tax by wearing black clothes and raising slogans. The session saw disruptions, leading to the suspension of opposition councilors for a day.

Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav presented a budget with an income of ₹8,302.46 crore and an expenditure of ₹8,232.26 crore, highlighting increases in water and property taxes, improvements in city bus fare subsidies, and plans for solar systems and public amenities. Key points include a 2% green cess on property tax, discounts on city bus fares, and the addition of 150 Wi-Fi-enabled junctions. The budget also includes initiatives for waste management, rooftop competitions, and digital address systems, with a focus on sustainable development and improved public services.
